Summer reading a universe of stories

Summer Reading

Summer Reading

“A Universe of Stories”
June 3 – August 24, 2019

Young girl reading a book to toy animals

Children’s Summer Reading

Ages birth to 12 years

How it works:

  • Kids and parents set weekly reading goals together
  • As you reach your goals, you earn rewards coupons from local businesses
  • You’ll also earn book bucks to spend in in our reading store
  • You can also earn free books to take home and keep

Note that rewards coupons from local businesses are limited quantity and are subject to availability. The sooner you complete your goals for a given week, the more likely you are to get the coupon you want. Children 2 and under will only earn book bucks and books, but no coupons. Our summer reading store is full of great prizes for those spending book bucks. Children’s book bucks cannot be used at the teen auction.

Teen Summer Reading

Ages 13-17 years

How it works:

  • Teens, it’s time to read, read, read!
  • As you report your reading, you’ll accrue book bucks
  • Use your book bucks to buy prizes in our summer reading store
  • Or spend them at our summer reading auction in August

Note that the book bucks you earn will be recorded as credits in your summer reading passbook. Also, you can earn book bucks for reading anything appropriate to your reading level (this now includes audiobooks). Pick up your passbook at our teen desk on the second floor. Bring it back often to update your reading progress and your book buck tally. Magazines and newspapers don’t count for earning book bucks.
